Patriot Gun Cases

11/28/2014

There is no debate, quality gun cases are important and expensive. I have been postponing this purchase for as long as possible, but I have finally made the investment. Patriot Cases had an irresistible Black Friday sale today. An uncut foam hard case. I picked up three of these cases. The first is for my AR 15. The second is for my shotgun and the third is for all of my handguns. I will post pictures of the cases once they are cut to my individual guns.

Air Force President's Hundred Tab

The Presidents Hundred Tab, although popular, is unfamiliar to most Airmen.

Although there is no picture of the President's Hundred Tab being worn on an Airman's uniform, images of Ranger Tabs being worn suggests it is in regulations. Documentation from Airman earning the tab also suggests this tab is within regulations for wear on both the blues and ABUs.

More information on the President's Hundred competition and tab will be listed on the President's Hundred page. It will be updated with all of the information required to compete and uniform guidance.

Update 11/28/14: I have contacted a recipient of this award and found a picture of it being worn on ABUs. Click Here

OC Indoor Shooting Range

I had the pleasure of shooting an the Orange County Indoor Shooting Range on Saturday. I haven't had the opportunity to shoot there since I recently moved away from the area. I had a membership back in High School for one year. I got a lot of use out of it. Worth looking in to.

I had enough time to put 150 rounds through my 1911. I felt like I was getting the best groupings I've had to date. I'm going to give most of the credit to the gun.  Since the gun was cerakoted twice (oops), it has been too tight in cycling. I only had three failures in the 150 rounds. That is a huge improvement compared to the 30 failures I had last week. Its slowly starting to loosen up.

As far as OC Indoor Shooting Range, their prices for military customers are very fair and its a nice range. There are not many shooting locations in Orange County, so it is worth visiting if you are in the area.

Air Force Shooter Has Returned

11/13/2014

It feels great to be back in action. A lot has changed since my last blog post. For starters, my Springfield Armory Mil Spec 1911 is finally finished. It has been completely gutted and brought up to competition standards. I have only put 600 rounds through the gun this week and it is clear that I have a lot of ground to cover before it breaks in.

The reality is that I now have a gun that shoots far better than my skill level. It is now up to me to rise to the level of my equipment. I am hoping to consistently document this journey from here on out.

Another major change since my last post is that I have been assigned my AFSC/career. I'm privileged to have been assigned my first choice, 35PX, Public Affairs. I am expecting to start my career as an Air Force officer sometime after June 2015 (needs of the Air Force).

A last note is that I have started looking into finding upcoming CMP EIC matches. The Air Force hosts Elementary EIC matches. The main difference is in the word elementary. These matches are designed for Airman who are not in the traditional shooting circuit. As soon as they place in the top 10% of one of these competitions they are no longer able to compete at this elementary level. They also would earn an elementary bronze EIC badge.

Expect the dates to be posted on the event calendar tab. Happy shooting.
