Dave's Indoor Gun & Archery

12/2/2014

I visited Dave's Indoor Gun & Archery range recently. The options for the Inland Empire are limited, so its easier to overlook the flaws in facility/pricing/staff. It was worth the drive though. I had a decent grouping with the 1911.

I kept track of my shots this time. The gun failed to fire 11 out of 91 shots. That's far from ideal. I talked with the gunsmith and it looks like we are going to switch out the main spring and recoil spring for lighter ones. I am hopeful that this will change the gun's reliability.

I have now put 700 rounds through this build. It's been enjoyable, but expensive. Shooting .45 ACP is not cheap. I was talking with a competitive shooter this week and he suggested I switch from shooting .45 ACP to shooting .22 LR. I'm not sure how I will afford this conversion, but my next post will explain the conversion option in more detail.

OC Indoor Shooting Range

I had the pleasure of shooting an the Orange County Indoor Shooting Range on Saturday. I haven't had the opportunity to shoot there since I recently moved away from the area. I had a membership back in High School for one year. I got a lot of use out of it. Worth looking in to.

I had enough time to put 150 rounds through my 1911. I felt like I was getting the best groupings I've had to date. I'm going to give most of the credit to the gun.  Since the gun was cerakoted twice (oops), it has been too tight in cycling. I only had three failures in the 150 rounds. That is a huge improvement compared to the 30 failures I had last week. Its slowly starting to loosen up.

As far as OC Indoor Shooting Range, their prices for military customers are very fair and its a nice range. There are not many shooting locations in Orange County, so it is worth visiting if you are in the area.
